New painting

Today I photographed a couple of my latest paintings.  This one is 12x9, mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas.  I'm trying to paint messier, which is hard for me since I'm kind of a control freak.

Ed in charge

It's hard to brush my teeth with a sink full of Ed.

Toast

I was wandering around the house late last night.  I do that a lot.  Sundenly the toaster seemed really interesting to me.  Seems like everything takes on new life late at night.

I knew I could find something to do with those plastic feet I bought.

Green

My neighbor has such a huge yard that it's almost like living across the street from a park.  I am immensely grateful to be surrounded by so much green.

Barf

I don't care if Tony Bourdain and other celebrity chefs have made it fashionable to eat "the nasty bits", the idea makes me gag.

Della's donkey

Yesterday I went to a friend's wedding in rural Alabama.  It was one of the neatest, sweetest weddings I've ever attended.  I took several photos but I wasn't happy with the way any of them turned out--except for the donkey.  His name is Jack.  I don't think Jack liked being all dressed up for the festivities.  But maybe he did.  With donkeys it's hard to tell.

Do over

I made some changes to an older painting and I'm quite pleased with the results.  Movement and color.

Sidewalk gremlin

This little guy made me smile.  I can identify with his frustration.  And I like the fact that he's made out of chalk so there is no permanent damage to the wall.

The gnarled roots of oak trees always remind me of fairytales and magic.

New easel

For my entire career I've painted on a flat table.  I finally decided that I ought to try working on an easel.  After much deliberation I bought one that was recommended by a person I trust.  Jim and I brought it home and set it up in my studio.  That was on Wednesday.  I still haven't used the new easel yet.  It's too pretty.  I don't want to mess it up.  Maybe someday I'm going to get up the courage to actually paint on it.

This is the first photo I've ever taken out the window of an airplane.  I never tried it before because I was certain that it required special knowledge or special equipment to get a clear picture from a moving plane.  It doesn't.  Now I know.

Alley art

I walked down a lot of alleys behind Rue St. Laurent.  They were covered in graffiti--some of it quite skilled and beautiful, some of it just messy and chaotic.  Some of it seemed like art to me and some of it just seemed like vandalism.  Love it or hate it, graffiti has become an urban cultural phenomenon that must be reckoned with.

Night lights

These are the first photos I've ever taken at night.  I am not a trained photographer.  I've never had any instruction in the use of a camera.  I just point and shoot and hope for the best.  I had never tried taking pictures after dark because I didn't think it would work, but the lighted buildings around Place Jacques-Cartier in Old Montreal were so beautiful that I decided to try it.  Glad I did.

Jean Talon is a large open air market that operates every day of the week.  The sights, the smells and the tastes make it a real feast for the senses.

Granny is a rebel

When I first saw this street mural I found it somewhat disturbing but the more I've looked at it the more it's grown on me.  Wish I knew the backstory.

An edgier side to the city

I took so many photos of graffiti and street art in Montreal that it's hard to choose which to publish.  I don't plan to show them all, but these two really got my attention.
