Stairs

With a camera in your hand you don't have to travel far to find beautiful and exotic views.  These are the stairs off my back porch.

Homage to Carl

I've started carrying a camera with me at all times.  I got the idea from my friend, Carl, who always has his small Cannon Powershot at the ready in his pocket.  Carl takes dozens of pictures every day.  He is constantly whipping out his camera to take a picture of something I most likely hadn't even noticed.  His subjects run the gamut from mundane objects such as cracks in the sidewalk to bizarre exotica like road kill.  He has a really good eye for odd and interesting angles, too.  His photos are quite good and I've encouraged him to find a way to share them with others but Carl is a retired English professor and a writer.  He's not particularly attuned to technology or social media.  He takes photos solely for his own pleasure and amusement so he just snaps away and when his camera chip gets full he goes out and buys another one.

Today I was at the doctor's office.  My doctor almost always keeps me waiting.  Usually, by the time he finally breezes into the examining room I'm in a frenzy of anxiety and impatience.  But today, inspired by Carl, I spent the time taking pictures.  It was way better than reading months old magazines.  I even managed to get a few chuckles.

Thank you, Carl.
